Pulling Power

Talk about some serious pulling power on the Subaru Impreza WRX STIs. This clip is showing that for even a 220 kW, 390 N·m, four wheel drive 4-door car, it can still pull some serious load. Check out the clip below.

Hewlett Packard develops Racist softwares

Hewlett Packard have developed a new MediaSmart computer with a built-in face tracking device as part of its camera. With the face tracking software it allows the camera to follow you around the room whenever you're making a video call.

There is a slight problem though with it though and that is it doesn't seem to work if you're black. That's the conclusion that Desi, the star of this YouTube video has reached. Here we see as he tests out the face-tracking device with the help of his co-worker Wanda.

The camera follows Wanda around like it's a bee and she's the nectar, but for poor Desi (who has actually bought the damned thing) there's nothing. The MediaSmart isn't interested. It's like he and his people don't even exist.

HP posted a response on its Voodoo Blog and asserted that poor lighting or possibly faulty algorithms are to blame. An admin nicknamed Frosty wrote:

"We are working with our partners to learn more. The technology we use is built on standard algorithms that measure the difference in intensity of contrast between the eyes and the upper cheek and nose. We believe that the camera might have difficulty “seeing” contrast in conditions where there is insufficient foreground lighting."

HP also advised users to see its webcam help page for assistance in adjusting the brightness and contrast settings. Erm right... Check out the video below.

New Stem Cell Glue

New Stem Cell Glue Saves Climber's Leg! That's the headline over at Sky.com News. Andrew Kent broke his leg so badly (his tibia - the shinbone - had broken through the skin just above his ankle) while rock climbing in the Lake District that traditional surgery failed. Surgeons warned that he was likely to lose his leg unless they tried the new stem cell technique.

The new stem cell technique involves the removal of stem cells from the bone marrow in his patients hip. These were then mixed with a new collagen gel called Cartifill to make a paste, which was smeared into the fractures. They finally fixed his leg in a metal cage to gently squeeze the bones together.

Check out the presentation below...

The gel holds the stem cells against the bone, where they form a new layer of cartilage. Ten patients have been treated so far in Britain with an 80% success rate. The technique only costs a few hundred pounds - far less than alternative techniques.

With this stem cell glue Mr. Kent won't be able to run for about a year, but after 18 months his bones will have healed completely.

That is awesome how medical marvels like this are being made available to commoners like us. :)

Leaked Transformers 3 movie script

If you haven't heard of this, you will now. In the past few days the script to the next Transformers film was leaked. There have reports of it being fake and what not but after spending a few moments reading it, I'd wish it was the real thing. Not only it covers "Generation 1" that the fans desire but it also brings back a warm fuzziness inside of you while you're getting into the script.

Alas it is upto Michael Bay and his team to whether to use this script (if infact it was the real deal) or something entirely different. If this is the real script I would definately watch this at the movies more than several times. And probably invest in the G1'esq themed toys. Sigh...

Anyway if you want to read the leaked script you can get the PDF here.

Back to normal

Well looks like the site's activity is back to normal usage now with the Twilight competition over. LOL...

Anyway came across a website called Luggage Limits today and basically what it is is an information hub for (if not) all airlines possible on how much luggage you can carry/check-in at the airport. This is pretty good considering everyone always like to punt how much their check-in luggage can go over their carry limit.

Another one that caught my attention is MyP2P.eu. What they offer is this... "Myp2p is a site specialized in schedules for all kind of Sports. You can watch Live Sports by using our schedules. On top, browse to Live Sports. The information we give is fully free. You only need some clients to download and then you're ready to go. Prepare to watch alot of Football, MLB, NHL, NBA, Cricket, Tennis and many more."

Now here is the disclaimer. Some say that this is an illegal website because they stream pay-per-view shows/sports. Well here is what they have to say... "Myp2p is an Internet Service Provider offering a platform which merely displays links to audiovisual content located on servers of third parties and provided and/or transmitted by third parties. Myp2p does not host nor transmit any audiovisual content itself and does not control nor influence such content. Myp2p cannot accept any liability for the content transmitted by others. Any responsibility for this content lies with those who host or transmit it."

Any way you take it, the website is there and thus saved me going out to a pub on a very wet and cold Saturday to watch the rugby game.

The Twilight Saga: New Moon - Volvo competion Phase 5

Right Phase 5 is ready and it's the second to last phase left to do. This one did my noggin. I had no idea what this one was about. Anyway with the power of Google I managed to find the answers. Not very helpful this way. It means that I'm in no better shape to do Phase 6 or win the Volvo car. Ah well... If you're after the answers here they are.

Who the heck is Bibit Internet?

Just noticed a charge of £5 on my CC this morning from a company called Bibit Internet. No idea why there is a charge of £5 and who the heck are these guys? Did abit of research on the internet. Typing in "Bibit Internet Payment Bunnick" (Bunnick is where the company is located and shown on my statement) it forwarded me to RBS WorldPay's website. Now... I have no dealings with RBS so am curious why RBS would charge me £5!

Further research I found this. It seems that alot of gaming websites, providers etc use Bibit for their transactions. E.g. If you're purchasing something from say Sony Playstation 3 Store, the transaction will go through Bibit and that is what's shown on your credit card.

Hope that helps some of you who thinks that you have a fraudulent charge on your card. It could be you or your kids charging away on their concoles, computers.

O2 UK iPhones unlocked!

Making good on their promise from a week ago, O2 UK launched a website where customers can get their iPhone’s officially unlocked starting November 10, 2009. Here are the details:

  • Pay Monthly customers can get the unlock any time, but you have to keep paying O2 for the length of your remaining service contract.
  • Pay Go customers can get the unlock after 12 months, for a one-time £15 fee (deducted from airtime balance).
To begin the process, you need to complete the online form. The process takes up to 14 days to complete. Then you will get an SMS confirmation when it’s completed. You then just place a non-O2 SIM in to your iPhone, hook up to iTunes, and finish the unlock.

For me, I had filled in the form on day 1 and today I got the SMS confirmation and now my iPhone 3G is all unlocked! Sweet!

This is why you're suppose to pay attention to the roads while driving!!!

Check out the video below. This is why when if you're the driver of a motor vehicle, you're suppose to keep your eyes on the roads so you can see what you're driving into. Remember, it is a privilege to drive a vehicle and not by right!

On Thursday Oct. 22, 2009, there was an incident @ Extreme Fitness Thornhill, Ontario, Canada Parking lot.

The female driver of the X5 was charged today and is due in court Dec. 1st. Below a response from Hyundai Canada.

So remember kids... Be safe and always buckle up your seatbelts. I know lots of people in UK don't!

The Twilight Saga: New Moon - Volvo competion Phase 3

Right Phase 3 is now upon us and if you were like me, I was really frustrated with the little guys not moving and blocking etc. But found a way to get around them. I dont have the exact combination of movements because it changes but the general motion will get you to the end point.

In this phase you're controlling Bella, moving her around to rescue Edward. The scene from the trailers where Bella runs over the fountain courtyard to rescue Edward from vampiric suiside. There are a bunch of guys in robes blocking your way and the goal of this phase is to navigate around them to get to Edward.

If the guys are blocking you it means that you're going the wrong way and you have to find an alternate route to get around them. But if they move then they are making a path for you to take. Believe me it took me several tries to get it done.

The basic moves...
Move left, up, right, down, right, up, left should take you to the fountain area. From the fountain area you move left till you get to almost the wall, then move up, right, up, right, down, right, down, right till now you're by the right wall. Then move up, left, up, left, up, left, up... The last few steps you kinda get the idea. You should be able to reach Edward or close to using this general movements.

Good luck!

Car Heaven: Mercedes-McLaren SLR Stirling Moss

The Mercedes-McLaren SLR Stirling Moss. Such beauty... Only 75 will be made and if you've got some spare change (also not affected by the Global Recession), it will only cost you approximately £700,000! Think of it as an investment... The original Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR that is kept at the Mercedes' Stuttgart museum is said to be worth £30m. Anyway check out the pics below.

I want this in my games room... The Lexus LF-A.

Well if I had a games room this would be one item I would love to have in it. The Lexus LF-A Crystallised Wind. This car is made entirely out of acrylic glass and it was made for the Milan Design Week exhibition.

And pics of the real (drivable) car below.

Still worried about Sharks?!

Seems like there are bigger fishes in the sea that you should be more worried about... We've only been given a teaser...

Install 8XXGM Series Video Driver on Windows 7 - Tutorial

If you are upgrading your OS to Microsoft's latest Windows 7 and are installing it on older systems will find that you will have hardware compatibility issues once installed. When I had the Release Candidate installed, Windows 7 didn't provide a driver for the built-in Intel 82852/82855 Graphics Controller. Instead it defaulted to the Standard VGA and restricted the resolution to 640x480 maximum on a 14 inch screen. YUCK!

Who works with those resolutions these days? Absolutely no one in their right mind would. This happened because the Intel 82852/82855 Graphics chip does not support DirectX 9.0. For Windows 7, a GPU with at least a DirectX 9.0 support is required so that all of its fancy Aero and other effects are displayed. I’m installing this on a very old laptop of mine (that still runs XP fine!). Apparently would work fine if you were to install Vista but who would bother installing that pile of rubbish.

Well after spending a few hours scouring the WWW, I found a temporary solution that lets you install Intel 82852/82855 Graphics driver but there are limitations and abit finicky to install. The most obvious, you don’t get is any DirectX support! So this stops you installing Silverlight or any DirectX related apps. MSN aka Messenger Live installed but would hang the OS when you start it up. Perfect! Argh! Adobe Flash stuffs works though so anyway. And I could set the resolution back up to 1024x768. YAY!!!

Now that the final version of Windows 7 is out, I’ve gone ahead and installed it on the same laptop that I had the RC on, formatting everything in its place for the new final OS. I was using the laptop for casual Internet browsing and miscellaneous stuffs anyway so it was ok to format everything and start from scratch.

First of all Windows 7 installed in around 30-40 mins which is roughly about the same time it took to install XP. As expected the graphics driver defaulted to Standard VGA and was back to the 640x480 resolution. Went through Windows Update and hoped that it would pick up an Intel 82852/82855 Graphics supported driver but it didn’t. Bugger! Wishful thinking…

Again went back to the WWW and spent a little over 30 mins to find something that worked much better than the previous method. With this new method, it requires you to make a change to the main VGA driver which then prevents Windows 7 from installing it thus enables you to install the Intel 82852/82855 Graphics driver from XP!

Anyway long story short, everything works now. Resolution is back to 1024x768. I don’t get DirectX support but I’m not too bothered about it. Again it’s just for general Internet browsing and stuffs. MSN works fine now. I didn’t install Silverlight and haven’t tested Adobe Flash yet but I’m happy the way it is at the moment. Went through to install 4 display languages for the OS and it took almost 3 hours to do it!

If you’re having issues with the video drivers then I suggest you go and read this article. It may work for other graphic chips but there is no guarantee in this.

How Transformers Revenge of the Fallen should have ended...

You have got to watch this. This is a fan made toon for how Transformers Revenge of the Fallen should have ended... This is freaking hilarious!

14 Blades Trailer

Another Donnie Yen movie... 14 Blades.

During the Ming Dynasty, the Emperor of China possessed one weapon greater than all others, the Jinyiwei, an elite force of assassins recruited from street orphans. Trained in clandestine combat from childhood, the Jinyiwei were masters of the 14 Blades, eight being for torture, five for killing, and the last blade being reserved for suicide when a mission failed. Above the law, with a license to kill, the Jinyiwei devoted their lives and lethal prowess to the service of the Emperor alone. When the Imperial Court is taken over by evil eunuch JIA, the best of the Jinyiwei, QINGLONG and XUANWU, are assigned to steal a list identifying those still loyal to the Emperor. However unbeknownst to Qinglong, the Jinyiwei have fallen under the control of Jia, and during the mission Qinglong is betrayed by Xuanwu and barely escapes with his life. Now as the most wanted man in the land Qinglong must seek out and rally the loyalists to rise against Jia and restore the Emperor to power. In his way are the deadliest assassins in the land, his former brethren, the Jinyiwei.

Content Aware in Adobe Photoshop

I was just watching this at John Nack's blog and OMG this is one feature that I've always been looking for in Adobe Photoshop! If you use Photoshop for your daily photo editing etc, you will notice that the Healing Brush, Patch and Clone Stamp tools have been part of Photoshop since version 7 was released. But as newer versions of Photoshop are released, newer algorithms make these tools even better to use.

If you've tried or seen Photoshop CS4 (Adobe's latest offering) you will notice that there is a new feature called "Content Aware Scaling" and it is a pretty cool feature. In a nutshell Adobe's new feature senses "dead" areas in photos, and resizes the image to avoid squashing or stretching every object within it. If you want to see Content Aware Scaling in action, Russell Brown has done a video demo on the Adobe TV site.

Right, this is where the fun bits begin. John Nack has just done a video demo of what's happening behind the scenes @ Adobe Labs. Their latest concoction? Its Content-Aware Fill in Photoshop. Content Aware Fill? You know that sometimes when you're out and about taking various shots, there comes a point where the picture you’re trying to take will contain wires or items you don’t want. You can’t get away with having a different composition or anything. It is there by nature and the only way is to edit that picture in a tool such as Adobe Photoshop. Well this is where Content Aware Fill comes in and its best by viewing the video below to see what it does.

Least to say that I'm very excited about this feature. Hope it comes in as an update to Photoshop. It will definately save you a bucket load of time.

Clean Install Windows 7 with Upgrade Media

Unless you’re a student (who are able to benefit from the massive discounts on Windows 7), the only other option is to either buy the Full version (if you’re installing on a fresh PC) or an Upgrade version if you’ve got Vista or XP already installed.

If you’re performing a clean install then buying the full version is always preferred even though it is pricy to purchase a new Operating System. But really if it is good as XP then it is a worthwhile investment and on the plus side, you’re up to date on the latest OS offerings.

Here is a saving tip! You can actually use the Upgrade version to do a clean install, saving you £££! How do you do that? Well, on a fresh PC, insert the DVD into the drive, restart your PC and let the setup process take its course. Once completed, if you try to activate your newly installed Windows 7, it will tell you that you can’t mainly because you’ve used an Upgrade version of the OS and not the Full version to install.

Ok here is the trick and it involves you getting your hands abit dirty in the Windows Registry. Make sure that there are no Windows Updates pending that would require a system reboot. If that is the case then you’re ready to go.

- Open regedit.exe with Start Menu Search and navigate to: HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Setup/OOBE/
- Change MediaBootInstall from "1" to "0".
- Open the Start Menu again and type cmd to display a shortcut to the Command Line utility.
- Right-click this shortcut and choose "Run as administrator." Handle the UAC prompt.
- In the command line window, type: slmgr /rearm
- Then tap ENTER, close the command line window and reboot.
- When Windows 7 reboots, run the Activate Windows utility, type in your product key and activate windows.

Done! You’ve just saved yourself £££ and you’ve got Windows 7 fully installed on your PC!

Petition for the Unlocking of the iPhones in UK

O2 in the UK needs to provide a carrier unlock for iPhones that are out of contract. Other operators do, including Vodafone & Orange and it is standard practise to let customers unlock other phones (even for a fee).

Apple are technically able to provide over the air unlocking and there is NO reason to prevent customers who have fulfilled contract obligations (monthly or PAYG) from properly using their phones.

So I urge you and others to sign this petition (http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/O2UKiphone/).

Live UK Freeview now available on your iPhone

iPhone users everywhere now have the ability to watch live UK TV on their iPhone. Though the service is still in beta, it now offers 11 11 UK Freeview channels on the iPhone.

Naturally, streaming these channels to your phone is best via a WiFi connection but tested a few minutes ago with the normal O2 3G connection I was able to watch Film4 on it with no problems. Well, when turned to landscape mode the screen was flickering about an inch from the right but otherwise ok on normal mode.

Check out this link http://iphone.tvcatchup.com/ from your iPhone to start viewing.

iPhone App Review: BlogPress Lite

BlogPress Lite is now available on the Apple AppStore. In fact I'm blogging using this particular app right now.

I was actually tempted to buy the full edition but after reading that they were going to bring out a free full version of it for blogger.com (Google's blogging site), you just have to have a little patience in the folks at the AppStore to sign off on it and make it available.

What do I have to say about this app? Well if you own an iPhone, blog regularly and you're using blogger.com for your blogging then get this app. It's easy to use and best of all it's free!

Microsoft's Secret Tablet/Booklet "Courier"

News just broke out on the www a few hours ago about Microsoft's latest gadget codenamed "Courier"! After checking out the video I have to say this has got to be one of the hottest gadget to get! I would definately love one but not too sure how my other half would think of it. LOL. I have attached a youtube vid of the video below.

Anyway as you can see it is a dual screen tablet (booklet), about 7-inch in size per page. The screens are multitouch screens, and they are designed for writing, flicking and drawing with a stylus or your fingers. They're connected by a hinge that holds a single iPhone-esque home button. Statuses, like wireless signal and battery life, are displayed along the rim of one of the screens. On the back cover is a camera, and it might charge through an inductive pad, like the Palm Touchstone charging dock for Pre.

For more details I suggest you check out Gizmodo's website as they seem to have exclusive story on this.

If I was Apple right now, I would be kicking myself for not leaking something substantial about the Apple tablet.

Akon's Tribute to the Legend! Michael Jackson

Here it is folks. Akon's Tribute to Michael Jackson.

You can view the original view here or below.

Lyrics:
You will, be missed, by all your fans
I clenched, my fists, but this' so hard to withstand
If I had the power to change one thing, I'd bring you back today
But life's not promised and that won't change, im'a meet you there some day

In this lifetime I wonna thank you, for showing me the man in the mirror
In this lifetime I wonna thank you, you motivated the whole world to deliver
We cry out of joy (for you)
We cry out of joy (for you)
We cry out of joy (for you)
We cry out of joy (for you)
We cry out of joy (for you)
We cry out of joy (for you)
We cry out of joy (for you)
We cry out of joy (for you)
There's so much joy in our heart

Oh I wish, the world could see you the way I did
And I wish, they witnessed how a wonderful dad you were to all your kids
And I noticed it didn't stop there, saving children was one of your goals
Just donating all of your millions, so they could one day rule the world

In this lifetime I wonna thank you, for showing me the man in the mirror
In this lifetime I wonna thank you, you motivated the world to deliver
We cry out of joy (for you)
We cry out of joy (for you)
We cry out of joy (for you)
We cry out of joy (for you)
We cry out of joy (for you)
We cry out of joy (for you)
We cry out of joy (for you)
We cry out of joy (for you)
There's so much joy in our heart

One word for the media, please help the people see the love
Stop this garbage you're feeding us, show him for what he really was
Remember there was more to come, remember he's the chosen one
Remember he's the wisest one, remember him for what he's done
Remember him for what he's done, remember him for what he's done

In this lifetime I wonna thank you, for showing me the man in the mirror
In this lifetime I wonna thank you, you motivated the world to deliver
We cry out of joy (for you)
We cry out of joy (for you)
We cry out of joy (for you)
We cry out of joy (for you)
We cry out of joy (for you)
We cry out of joy (for you)
We cry out of joy (for you)
We cry out of joy (for you)
There's so much joy in our heart

Rest in peace and harmony, Michael. I love you, man.

Another reason why I love HobbyLink Japan

Earlier on the month I'd blogged about the upcoming Bandai Hobby PG (Perfect Grade) 00 Raiser kit due out this November. Only two more months to go! WOOT!

Anyway while reading through one of my usual websites it mentioned that the special clear armour set that is available to PG 00 Gundam, can only be obtained by purchasing them using a ticket included with the special prize set for the initial batch of release. I don't read Japanese so for me a) this is news and b) how the heck am I going to be able to get the special clear armour set? I don't have a Japan address and it's only available to Japan residents.

I then jumped back to HobbyLink Japan website (where I originally preordered this) to see if there are any updates and it now says that:-

"HLJ will be offering a very special proxy order and delivery service for the special clear parts set, for HLJ customers only! A special HLJ application form will be included with each Perfect Grade 00 Raiser kit, along with Bandai's special Purchase Ticket. Just follow the directions on the form, fill it out, and send it in to HLJ along with the Bandai Purchase Ticket in the supplied pre-addressed envelope. HLJ will then order the clear parts set for you and send it right to your door after we receive your payment for it! Details on pricing will be posted here once we know them."

Reading this has made my day and that's why I love HobbyLink Japan! You guys rock!

Gadgets...

Gadgets… Who doesn’t love them? There seems to be quite a few that are very passionate when it comes to their gadgets. I’m talking about all the geeks out there. There’s the Xbox fanboys vs. the Sony PS3 fanboys, the Microsoft fanboys vs. the Apple Mac fanboys and the latest ones everybody else vs. the Apple iPhone fanboys. The list just goes on…

Don’t get me wrong here. I LOVE gadgets! Always have been and always will. But there comes upon a time when you just don’t get as involved as when you’re younger. Back then it’s like WOW I’ve got the latest gadget on hand and then you show it off blah blah… You know... the cool kid on the block. All that passes by when if you do grow up.

You see, having the latest tech doesn’t mean you’re the man. Just that ok you’re an early adopter aka beta tester. There are some that get over passionate about technology that they don’t see the type of person they’ve become. There are some that still like to show off. Oooo... I have this new phone and it does this and that and oh… it’s soooo much better than the iPhone!

Once you hear that you say to yourself ok. That is alright. Because in a few months time another phone will be out and of course it will be better than yours. Blah blah... But to tell you the truth I’d actually purchased that other phone for personal use. I then upgraded the firmware as it promised a speed increase from the stock firmware. The other person said it was so much faster than the latest iPhone 3GS with the new firmware and it can do this and that that the iPhone can’t. Blah blah blah... Tried it out for myself and have to say that that fact was not true. It was actually slower than the iPhone 3GS and at the end of the day it’s the experience you get from the iPhone that beats all other competitors hands down.

So why get overly passionate about tech? Are you trying to defend your latest purchase? Oh please... Augmented Reality is also available on the 3GS and not just on the HTC Hero. Pays to do some research before slagging off other tech. End.

iPhone App Review: GeoDefense Swarm

Just recently bought this game and have say since the 3.1 firmware upgrade (which wiped all of the data off my iPhone 3G) this is probably my favourite game to play at the moment. Bought Puzzle Bobble as well but that was pretty easy and lasted 3 days at most. Just repeatative that's all. But yeah GeoDefense Swarm is a pretty cool game.

Challenges you not just on the action level but also challenges you on the strategic level. You see you don't simply place your armaments around the board randomly. Though that may actually help you win the level but you have to strategically place or route your armaments so that the creeps (as they call it in the game) don't get from one end to the other.

Anyway am upto level 3 now and this is probably my N'th time trying to complete the level. Check it out on the AppStore. Worth the purchase for a fun and challenging game. Hopefully a long lasting one as well.

Animated Google Street View

Check out the animated Google Street View video below...

Next generation Apple's announced! And it's a new Nano!

The next generation Apple iPod Nano has been announced and this time round it packs a larger colour display, a video camera, a speaker and microphone, a FM radio, and a pedometer. All that with no changes to its current size or packaging of the current iPod Nano. WOW! They did this to make an attempt to capture the video market (that the Flip Video has been having) that's been on the up and up in the last few years.

The new iPod Nano will be available in the same nine colours and said to be on sale as of today. Retail prices for the new device will be £115 for the 8GB model and £135 for the 16GB model. The 8GB model holds up to 2,000 songs, 7,000 photos, 8 hours of video and 7 hours of captured video where the 16GB model doubles the figures.

Head over to your nearest Apple store to check it out or online store. Detailed technical specifications can be found here.
